This ensemble of six genuine vintage coal miners safety lamps comprises one solid brass Eccles type 6, one brass and stainless steel Eccles type 6, one brass and metal Eccles type 6, one solid brass Eccles type A.1, one WE Teale brass and metal no.4 and one brass and metal lamp without a makers mark. These flame safety, oil or spirit burning mining lamps safely burn methane without causing an explosion. Ken Folletts’ “Fall of Giants” provides great insight into the life of Welsh coal miners, the dangers of methane gas and the important part these lamps played in miners every day work lives. Undoubtedly of interest to collectors of mining memorabilia and equipment, they are lovely decorative items and conversation pieces. The stories they could tell sparks the imagination.
